This option was implemented a little over two years ago on the Android and iOS versions of the app, and it wasn’t long before it came to the PC version. But with the arrival of public conversations, the seemingly functional tool became less and less making its existence virtually useless.
To avoid future headaches YouTube has decided to put an end to private messages and has set a “goodbye” date for September 18th. The company did not officially comment to justify this unexpected end, but it is noticeable that the popularity was not as high as expected as usage was restricted to groups of friends and family who shared videos related to their common taste.
Currently YouTube has also focused on bringing improvements to the stories, as in time will come the time to expand reach, as it is only available to YouTubers who have more than 10,000 subscribers, making these followers have access to other types of smartphone-compatible content, as well as directly competing with apps that already have functionality, such as Instagram and Snapchat.
