Now, after a year announcing the end of the “feature”, Twitter has finally ended support for sending tweets and other SMS interactions. According to the social network, the change takes effect from this week:
We want to continue helping to keep your account secure. As we have seen many vulnerabilities in SMS, we have disabled Twitter via SMS service, except in some countries. Everyone will still have access to important messages via SMS and necessary to log in and manage their accounts.

With the closure of its main service via SMS, Twitter also lost thousands of users, since many of these accounts were never migrated to applications or web version.
In addition, the social network points out that SMS can still be used as a two-factor authentication method. Anyway, as the company started to accept other formats, it shouldn’t be long before SMS also falls out of favor as a security method.
