TikTok pays US millionaire fine to avoid “wasting time” with lawsuit

While struggling to stay active in India and seeking to clarify the doubts of a commission in Europe, TikTok did not think twice and paid a $ 92 million fine in the United States. This amount was used to close a class action lawsuit for alleged “privacy violations”.

According to the prosecution, TikTok collected personal and confidential data to track users and direct them to advertisements. In addition, after paying the fine, ByteDance – the company responsible for the app – agreed to avoid a series of behaviors considered problematic by the court.

TikTok is committed to avoid collecting GPS data or user area and not to request biometric information. The social network also cannot send data from US users to servers outside the country.

Commenting on the matter, TikTok’s defense stressed that it did not agree with the accusation, but paid the fine to avoid “wasting time” :

While we disagree with the allegations, instead of going through a lengthy dispute, we would like to focus our efforts on creating a safe and joyful experience for the TikTok community.

With the payment of the fine, TikTok gets rid of approximately 21 class actions related to a wide gram of alleged privacy violations.
