iPhones of 2020 should count on Apple A14 chip of only 5 nanometers

While Apple may be structuring the latest tweaks for the 2019 iPhones, one of its key partners and responsible for the production of its chips – TSMC – may have revealed precious information about the 2020 models.

Lora Ho, CFO of the semiconductor company in Taiwan, revealed in an interview that the company is expected to grow in the coming months boosted by the production of new chips in the process of 5 nanometers. This will be positive for it as the process will lead to lower costs, and TSMC projects a capital increase of $ 10 billion to $ 11 billion by 2020.

The development process of the likely Apple A14 at 5nm will also be positive for consumers: the smaller physical space that the processor will occupy can result in the better internal organization in the cell phone. In addition, the smaller the chip, the greater the energy advantage, something welcome on iPhones.

For 2019 the semiconductor company is betting on the high demand of 5G chips for other associates, in addition to the IoT (Internet of Things) market. The Apple A13, which is due for release in September, is still based on a 7-nanometer lithographic process but should feature the improvements the next-generation chip offers, such as increased processing power, graphics, and artificial intelligence.

It is also worth remembering that iPhones usually open a new round of disputes for the trophy of better performance, generally measured by benchmarks. To the joy of the fans of Google’s green robot, however, Qualcomm arrives shortly after the year update for the Snapdragon 800 series.
