Facebook Messenger Could be Coming Back to the Main Facebook App

In front of integrating with Facebook’s other messaging services

Facebook may return Messenger’s chats back into its main social media application. The feature is at present in testing and was spotted by application researcher Jane Manchun Wong, and would mean that you could use a solitary app to get both the social media platform and elements of the messaging service. The change uses the current Messenger button in the Facebook application, yet it takes you to a new “Chats” segment instead of opening the different Messenger app.

Messenger was first released as an independent application back in 2011, and in 2014 Facebook expelled its functionality from its eponymous application. Half a decade later, as Facebook prepares to coordinate its messaging services across Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, the functionality seems to be returning.

In a given below tweet, Wong notes that this Chats segment only contains a limited choice of Messenger’s features. In spite of the fact that you can use it to send and receive messages, you’ll still need to open the independent Messenger app to make calls, send photos, or send message responses.

As a component of its messaging integration plans, Facebook apparently intends for each service’s individual app to keep to exist. Wong speculates that the same is valid for the Messenger app, which she believes will be kept around to serve an unexpected audience than the main Facebook application.

Wong also captures the screenshots of the functionality show Facebook’s proposed white redesign for the application, which was first spotted at the start of January 2019, and which we got a better look at in March 2019. The interface closely reflects Facebook messenger’s white redesign, which was made broadly available at the start of this year. It’s hazy when the new Messaging combination or interface might become accessible.

a Facebook spokesperson said that “We are testing approaches to improve the messaging experience for people within the Facebook app, Messenger remains a feature-rich, independent messaging app with over a billion people using it monthly to interact with the people and businesses they care about most. We do not have any extra details to share at this time.”
