Apple may launch 12.9-inch iPad and 16-inch MacBook Pro with Mini LED in 2020

Apple could bring Mini LED technology to its tablets and notebooks. The company would release 12.9-inch iPad and 16-inch MacBook Pro with this material by the end of 2020.

The information was given by company analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a note to investors. He would have provided a timeline of Cupertino’s change to this material.

Kuo predicts “Apple” will use the Mini LED on screens of four to six products over time, with the transition starting from the 12.9-inch iPad Pro scheduled for Q3 next year. In addition to this type of panel, the tablet would still feature the A14X chipset.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro would arrive only in the fourth quarter of 2020. Other products with this technology would ship in the next two to three years. With the adoption of Apple, the trend of the industry development of this material is accelerated.

Kuo’s latest report is based on one of his own, released in September this year, which says he expects to switch to the Mini LED in late 2020 or early 2021.

Importantly, this display technology enables wide color gamut, high contrast ratios, high dynamic range and localized dimming. Thinner, more energy-efficient and burn-resistant panels are also expected.
