Considered one of the main social networks today, Instagram has officially confirmed in an update on its blog an update on how the network deals with abusive direct messages, including acts of racism, threat, and other types of harassment.
In the post, the origin of this important change is revealed: the attacks directed at football players from the United Kingdom who received private messages with racist attacks, thus raising the question as to the positions of the social network regarding users who practice such an act.
Also according to the publication, the main problem in the management and control of this type of interaction is that the area of direct messages does not have the same filters used in the common feed, which seeks at least in the public area to automatically detect attempts at bullying and more.
Thus, in order for the social network to take action against users who violate this specific point, it is important that the user who was the victim of the harassment in question reports moderation, encouraging the implementation of “tougher measures” against the reported profiles.
Humanity and social media at its worst. Yes I’m a black man and I live every day proud that I am. No one, or no one comment, is going to make me feel any different. So sorry if you were looking for a strong reaction, you’re just simply not going to get it here 👊🏾

Speaking of punishment, this is certainly the most important part of the ad: if previously reported users went through a temporary profile limitation, now they can be punished with the permanent suspension of the social network and make it difficult to create new profiles to get around the punishment.
“We’ll also disable new accounts created to circumvent our message restrictions and continue to disable accounts that we’ve found are created exclusively to send abusive messages”
No less important, it is also confirmed that ways are being worked on to increase the greater control of DM to users, which will allow the deactivation of messages by accounts that are not of their social circle.
