Wireless! Dongle promises to bring Android Auto to vehicles using only USB connection

The idea of Android Auto is to make it easier to use navigation and media control apps while driving, but this happens with some problems when connecting the phone to the car. Many cars use a cable to run Android Auto, which can make the process more difficult.

However, an ambitious project aims to make this connection easier, eliminating the need for cables for the connection, adding Android Auto to a dongle, called AAWireless. It works as a small device that plugs into the USB port of cars with Android Auto, allowing connection to the wireless phone.

The work is by developer Emil Borconi, who had already developed an app called AAGateway, which used a second Android phone to create a wireless version of the car operating system, but the project was limited, as it needed two smartphones. The idea is now to eliminate this limitation, using a device with hardware developed to use the USB connection.

Initialization takes 10 seconds, and it takes about 30 to 40 seconds for the device to connect to the phone and use the car’s media panel. There are already functional prototypes of the dongle, and some vehicles are already participating in the tests, and there are already similar devices for the Apple CarPlay, but Android Auto is a novelty. The $ 55 price (R $ 291.60 in direct conversion) shows a focus on cost-effectiveness.

It is possible that AAWireless does not work perfectly in all cars, and the device is in a crowdfunding campaign on the Indiegogo platform, with a fixed collection goal of US $ 220 thousand over the next 44 days and, if it works, the devices must be sent to funders as of December.
