WhatsApp conversations can be migrated to Telegram on Android and iOS

January 30, 2021 by Kamran Haider Leave a Comment

Telegram we saw that Telegram would start allowing its users to migrate conversations from WhatsApp to their messenger on iOS. Now, the application has not only confirmed this information but also announced that it will also be possible to make this configuration on Android phones.

The news was shared on its official blog, and the Russian app also explained the step-by-step instructions for making this migration from Zuckerberg’s messenger to yours. Both on Apple phones and those with the Google operating system, the entire path must be followed directly by WhatsApp. Check the procedure below for each one:

On Android: Open WhatsApp, select the desired conversation, and click on the three dots in the upper right corner to open the chat menu. After that, click on “More” and then on “Export conversation”. After that, the messenger will ask whether or not you want to include media files (photos, videos, and audios) in the migration. After selecting, just click on the Telegram icon and then define which chat the conversations will be “cloned to”.

On iOS: Open the Contact Profile or Group Information page on WhatsApp, tap the Export conversation and choose Telegram from the Share menu. Likewise, migration also allows you to include media files. The difference is that, on iOS, the user can also copy conversations directly from the chat list. To do this, slide a conversation to the left and choose ‘…’ and then click Export conversation.

In both cases, messengers allow the migration of both individual and group chat conversations. Just select the source chat on WhatsApp and the destination chat on Telegram to make the copy, which does not take long to take effect.

After migration, the Telegram application will identify messages migrated from WhatsApp to it with the indication “imported” after each sending. In addition to Mark Zuckerberg’s application, Telegram also allows the migration of conversations from other messengers, such as Line and KakaoTalk, for example.

Telegram releases a feature that lets you import WhatsApp chats

Although WhatsApp has given up on the idea of implementing its new privacy policy, Telegram and Signal continue to take advantage of user migration. In some cases, applications even copy resources from the Facebook messenger.

However, Telegram went much further this week. According to information from WABetaInfo, the latest update from the Russian messenger brings a feature that allows you to import conversation history from other applications, including WhatsApp itself.

That is, in addition to offering more features and enhanced privacy, Telegram now wants to make life easier for those who are leaving WhatsApp. See in the screenshots below that everything is very simple:

For now, the novelty is only available to users on iOS, but WABetaInfo guarantees that soon the feature will also be taken to Android. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Choose a chat on WhatsApp to export. Touch more and select “export conversation”
  2. Select “Telegram” from the iOS options, as the app will ask where you want to import messages
  3. You can choose the saved messages, a “new group” or any other conversation. After completing the choice, messages and even media (if the user opted for it) will be available in the chat you choose
  4. All imported messages receive the “imported” stamp.

According to Telegram, it is also possible to import messages from an entire group. The walkthrough is basically the same used in individual conversations.
