WhatsApp confirms expansion of the number of people in video calls

In the middle of this week, the WABetaInfo website had revealed the expansion in the number of people in group video calls in the trial version of WhatsApp. Now, Facebook itself – the owner of the messenger – confirmed the news.

In its official Twitter account, Mark Zuckerberg’s company said it is expanding the functionality of the functionality to up to eight people, both in video and audio conversations. Check it out below:

In the microblog publication, the company did not give more details about the change. That is, if it remains in testing or has already been released to all users, or when it will be available to the entire database.

The possibility of expanding the limit on the number of members in calls of this type was already expected since last week when it was discovered the future insertion of the feature in the beta version available until then.

The application can be installed or updated in the official app stores for Android and iOS. The download links are accessible on the card located below the text.

After a few days of internal testing, WhatsApp began to release the new limit for group calls to the beta audience. The news was revealed this Wednesday (22) by the staff of WABetaInfo.

In order for the feature to be enabled, the user must have the beta version 2.20.133 on Android and 2.20.50.25 on iOS. After installing the update, WhatsApp should release video and voice calls for up to eight people.

Looking to compete with Zoom and other apps, WhatsApp now allows up to eight people to join a group video or voice call.

For those who don’t remember, the previous limit was only four people at a time, something that bothered a lot of people. For now, the release of the novelty is happening through phases. Therefore, the resource may take a little longer to be available to everyone.

WhatsApp can increase the number of users in group video calls

While preparing native dark mode for your app on Windows 10 and macOS, WhatsApp seems to be interested in further increasing its influence on the desktop. That’s because the messenger indicates that he can expand his video calling feature.

According to the staff of WABetaInfo, this novelty was discovered in the latest beta version of WhatsApp, and it already works for Android and iOS. So, instead of allowing video calls from just four people, the intention is to increase the number of participants.

Of course, the novelty may be being prepared to meet the great demand in this mandatory quarantine period due to the new coronavirus (Covid-19). However, it is not yet clear what will be the new limit of participants per video call.

Another detail available in the latest beta version of WhatsApp is that the messenger should further emphasize that their video calls are encrypted from end to end. Apparently, this is a clear message for Zoom, which has been facing a series of privacy problems.

For now, WhatsApp does not officially comment on this improvement for its video calls. Anyway, everything indicates that the novelty can be released in the public version at any time.
