Samsung launches new SSD 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 with maximum speed of 7 GB / s

Presented during CES 2020, the new SSD 980 Pro PCIe NVMe was launched without a hitch by Samsung. The product was listed on the brand’s website in Singapore, with three storage capacities: 250 GB, 500 GB, and 1 TB.

At the time of the first announcement, the information already accounted for a reading speed of 6,500 MB / s. Samsung has now achieved an increase of 500 MB / s and managed to reach 7,000 MB / s – or 7 GB / s.

As you can see in the Ice Universe leaker post above, he had already revealed more details about the 980 Pro a few days ago, such as the presence of a new custom Elpis Controller, in addition to the underlying storage technology.

For this new generation, Samsung preferred to include 3-bit MLC storage. This significantly reduced the resistance rating of this model, compared to its predecessor, 970 Pro. In practice, the TBW fell by half, from 1,200 to 600 – in the 1 TB variant numbers.

Prices and availability

So far, Samsung has yet to reveal more details about the values and availability of its new SSDs. Its direct competitors – Corsair MP600 and Sabrent Rocket – cost approximately $ 200 for the 1 TB version. In the case of the Samsung model, it is possible to expect a little more than that in the values.
