Microsoft removed the October Windows 10 Update

The update erased entire folders of files without permission.

Microsoft has pulled the handbrake. The October update of Windows 10, which had been available since last Tuesday, has been bundled. According to many users, the update is responsible for deleting entire folders of files and profiles without even asking permission. What is worse, despite returning to the previous version of the OS, the files disappear irremediably (obviously, there are recovery methods, but they are never fully effective). To stop the vortex, the North American company has decided to withdraw the update.

“We have stopped the update process of the October 2018 Update of Windows 10version 1809 ) for all users while we study the reports of those users who have lost files when updating their system,” Microsoft says on its support page. Apparently, the problem was detected before the update was activated in bulk. The most interested users could install the package from October 2, but until October 9 it was not going to reach the rest automatically. Obviously, the suspension of the update is not going to console those who have already lost their data, but the company has asked those users to call their local customer service office in case it happened to them.

This kind of problems are not frequent, but the ones that are frequent are data losses due to unit failures or pure human failures. To avoid the bad drink, remember to make backups in external units, or even in the cloud, of your most important data or whatever you want to keep. You never know when that storage disk will fail again … Anyway, there are always signs that indicate when you should change the components of your computer.
