Google wins in court and takes down download site for YouTube videos and music

Google has acted to take down sites that allow downloading videos and music from YouTube. The last onslaught was successful and involved the fight for the youtubeconverter.io domain.

The search giant has asked the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to close the site for using its brand for illegitimate practices. The entity’s decision was favorable that the page violates YouTube’s terms of service.

WIPO understands that there was a use of a third party brand without legitimate purposes, which could confuse the user. She further claims that domain registration occurred as a way to hide the real identity of whoever was behind it. The decision was to transfer the domain immediately to Google.

However, before losing access, the owner of the illegal site – a man from Vietnam – decided to get ahead and created a new domain to host the downloader – ytconv.cc. The content is totally similar, but with another address to prevent any dispute again with the Mountain View giant.

It is worth remembering that this month of February has seen other news for YouTube. Among them are the return of the Picture-in-Picture feature in iOS 14.5 and the receipt of the button for the quick creation of TikTok-style videos in India.
