Owners of the Sony Xperia XZ Premium or Xperia XZ1 lineup: Support for future system upgrades seems to be over; including those for security. The devices disappeared from Sony’s official website related to this theme and apparently it was not by mistake.
Both XZ Premium and XZ1 and XZ1 Compact carry the same software track, and the latest update for these devices was build number 47.2.A.11.228, which brought the Android security package related to September 2019.
Announced just over 2 years ago at IFA 2017, the disappearance of models from the official device list indicates that Sony is likely to stop releasing updates for these devices, which can be considered disappointing as most Android manufacturers often ship. up to 3 years of updates, bringing at least system security patches.
However, we are still hoping that Sony will go back with this supposed decision and close at least the 3-year cycle seen at other manufacturers.
Are you a user of one of these devices? Is interrupting the arrival of security updates crucial for you? Tell us here in the comments!
