Grim Quest is a beautiful ‘roguelike’ in which players can create a character from scratch and start adventuring through a world full of dangers, but also full of fun.
When starting a new game we can choose between five different races: orcs, undead, humans, dwarves and elves. Within each race, we will also find three character classes for our main hero. The magician will allow us to cast powerful spells, the rogue will allow us to more easily ambush our enemies, and the warrior will provide us with a good defense. Once we have chosen our race and type of hero, we can begin the adventure.
The Grim Quest gameplay is not particularly complicated, although at first it may seem otherwise: at the bottom of the screen, we find the different key elements that we must keep in mind to move forward. Then, by clicking on the map, we will be able to access different spaces in which we will find a way to fulfill our missions. When accessing a dungeon, we will find a board full of dark squares. To advance through the dungeon, we will have to click on a neighboring square and face what appears to us. We can find physical enemies (rats, thieves) and also psychological enemies (doubts, guilt, fears …). After each fight, we will receive a reward in the form of experience and items for our inventory.
Grim Quest is a deep and passionate ‘roguelike’ that hides hours and hours of fun under its modest graphics. An outstanding title, which will undoubtedly appeal to most fans of the ‘roguelike’ genre.
