Contra Returns is a sequel to the classic Contra, which will allow us to enjoy a game experience inspired by that of the original title, but with some changes that try to bring it closer to a wider audience. The game retains that two-dimensional side perspective that made it so famous, and how could it be otherwise, it will allow us to advance through scenarios crowded with enemies, while we shoot non-stop to kill them all.
The control system in Contra Returns is very similar to that of the original game, although with some obvious changes derived from the touch screens. When we start playing Contra Returns we will only have at our disposal Bill Rizer (the protagonist of the original game), but as we play and overcome levels, we will be able to unlock both Lance and many other additional characters exclusive to this sequel. We can also unlock more than twenty different weapons, with a multitude of ‘skins’ that will allow us to customize our games.
The most interesting novelty of Contra Returns is that it has several different game modes. In addition to the classic ‘story mode’, we can enjoy the ‘challenge mode’, the ‘arena mode’, the ‘duo mode’ and even a ‘PVP mode’. In this last game mode we will be able to face each other against other players over the Internet. Thanks to this plethora of online game modes, not only can we enjoy Contra with friends, but we can show off our best weapon and character skins.
Contra Returns is a fun continuation of one of the great classics in video game history. Although some of the older veterans will not be happy, especially with the low level of difficulty, the truth is that the game has managed to stay true in some key aspects.
