The revelation was made by director Rian Johnson, who led the titles “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”, “Between Knives” and “Secrets (Knives Out)”. He confessed in an interview with Vanity Fair. See the player excerpt below:
“I don’t know whether to say that or not. Apple allows you to use iPhones in movies, but – and this is very important if you are watching a thriller – villains cannot appear with iPhones on the camera. ”

Johnson also declares that the public can find out who the good guy or the villain of some products is only by the cell phone they use in the plot. Even when the bad guy is treated in secret during part of the story.
It seems that the ban is not a recent one. A 2002 Wired article cited that, in the “24 Hours” series, only the protagonists used Macs. Villains used computers with Windows installed.
Apple was contacted by the CNET website to provide further explanation of the statement but did not respond to the request.
